Root Canals

There are very few things in the world that produce the same kind of reaction as the words root canal do. Just by reading that sentence most of you will have had at very least an unpleasant thought or maybe even a chill run down your spine. I am here to tell you that the world is wrong! Root canals don’t have to hurt. Hold on; let me say it again so you don’t have to go back. Root canals don’t have to hurt. I know it’s crazy talk but with advances in dental anesthesia and rotary endodontics root canal no longer has to be a dirty word.

The reality of a root canal is that you are numb for the entire procedure. So just like a filling or any other dental procedure you should never feel any discomfort. Actually because most that need a root canal arrive in pain, most people feel better after a root canal.

So why would you need a root canal?

A root canal is indicated on a tooth that:

1. Has a cavity that extends into the nerve of the tooth
2. Has an abscess and/or swelling due to inflammation of the nerve or death of the nerve
3. Has damage to the nerve from trauma

I was nervous at the beginning of my appointment because I’ve never had a root canal. It wasn’t bad at all because I had no pain and everyone was super nice. If there has to be a next time I’m glad Dr. Burris will be there. – Lisa Bowers
