Is it painful to get a tooth crown?

You deserve quality dental care from a professional team, and at Dental Solutions, we strive for stress-free, comfortable treatment for every patient we’re lucky enough to care for.

And we understand that when you find out you need a dental crown, your first question will likely be, “Is getting a tooth crown painful?”

Well, we’re here to answer that common question and put your mind at ease.

Does a Dental Crown Hurt?

The dental crown process is generally painless; before we begin the procedure, we’ll numb the treatment area with local anesthesia. Once your mouth is numb, you shouldn’t feel any pain or discomfort.

Here’s what happens next:

  • We’ll remove any decay and shape your tooth to make room for the cap that will cover your entire tooth.
  • Then, we’ll take impressions to send to the dental lab. That way, they can create a custom crown that blends seamlessly with your other teeth.
  • To protect your tooth until your permanent crown is back from the lab, we’ll cover your tooth with a temporary crown.
  • A couple of weeks later, you’ll come back to our office so we can remove your temporary crown and bond your permanent crown in place.

That’s it!
